There is no magic bullet in FinOps.
The work that moves the needle is rarely glamorous — tagging hygiene, allocation queries rewritten until the numbers are honest, the same conversation about a forgotten cron or an idle environment running for no reason.
The cloud bill is a mirror of your engineering culture. No tool fixes that. People do — slowly, and with care.

01 About
I'm Wuming — a Cloud Architect & Advisor and a FinOps Ambassador. I work with organisations that want to take cloud cost seriously without dressing it up as transformation theatre.
I write about FinOps on LinkedIn — what I've actually seen and done, not what sounds clever in a deck.

02 What the work looks like
- Reading billing exports until the patterns are obvious
- Fixing tags nobody owns, and writing the queries that hold them honest
- Doing the unglamorous math on Reserved Instances and Savings Plans
- Talking to the engineers who own the workload — they almost always know where the waste is
- Killing zombie environments that everyone forgot about
- Building cost allocation that survives the next reorg
Slower than dashboards suggest. Also where the savings are.
03 A few things I believe
- Dashboards don't reduce cost. Decisions do.
- Most savings come from a handful of unglamorous fixes, applied consistently.
- Tools don't fix culture. People talking to people fixes culture.
- Showback is theatre unless someone owns the number.
- The first 20% off the bill is easy. The next 20% is where the craft lives.
